Our Interpretation - Part 3

This is Part 3 of the "My Interpretation" series , authored by my friend - Disney. I promised to make him write on my blog about anything he wanted. He mailed this to me on the 11th October, 2008. More than a year ago. I drafted to post it sometime and forgot completely about it! And all this while, he hasn't said a word about this to me. I'm glad to have found such a great friend. I guess he takes over from here! Presenting to you, Gaddy Disney with the post -

GOD IS NOT A MAGICIAN

1--> “Dear God I’ve got my exam tomorrow. I’m ok with two units, the rest- not that good . So please help me clear this exam. “

2-->“Loving father, tomorrow there’s gonna be a competition and I haven’t prepared well but I want you to assist me. I gotta do well ..thank you!

3-->“God I don’t know how I’m gonna get this work done with the time left. Please do something that it turns out well. All these years I haven't asked you anything but now I ask for one thing…not for me but for the benefit of others..So please make this happen”

Does any of this ring a bell? Cited above are some of the common prayers - the prayer of a student, prayer of the employed, sometimes even an atheist prays, trying to test the potential of God. And the prayers go on, unperturbed, rising in demands every time it is met. By the way this post is not to question the existence of God. It’s all about how we treat God in our daily life. What position do we give in our lives? As you might have noticed, I’ve started with some prayers just to show the circumstances at which we say a prayer. So, let’s begin with this question – When do we pray?

We usually pray during times of urgency..times of struggle. Times when we feel lost.. when we lose faith in our strengths . We look up to God seeking help. Every prayer has one thing in common...”WE ASK”. We ask for one favour after another. Most of our prayers have only requests and needs. All that we expect from God is to answer our prayers positively…every time…whatever be our demand. Does God sound like a genie or a fortune teller..or someone who gives all that would please us. No! But this is how God has been, is being and will be treated. Why don’t we look from God’s perspective..?!! We live in a world where everything is instant..right from the minute the sun peeps out, the morning coffee till the sunset..everthing is instant. We need immediate results. We don’t wait for anyone. We need things the moment we ask for it. It may be rational enough when it comes to people around us, but we expect the same thing when we pray – “instant” reaction from God. Why don’t people realize this – God has a life too with timings that are completely different from ours. If our wish has not been fulfilled, we conclude that our prayers are useless and we start complaining. I don’t know if this makes sense..but is’nt it funny that you give a deadline to the creator of the universe?

Time for some activity. Create a list of things that you’ve always wanted to do, but never done so far. Everyone makes a different list but I’m sure about one thing which will be missing from the all the lists - TIME FOR GOD. Eventhough you were given all the time you needed I don’t think your priority will be to spend some time with God, to know what he wants you to do. That’s where God stands in our life. We’ve him only to perform those supernatural miracles whenever we lose hope. I’m not saying that it’s bad to ask for help in days of trouble but I feel its atrocious to seek God only during our days of pain and needs. It is vital to realize what we are doing to the one person who can unconditionally love us, no matter what. Even God has a heart and heartaches! How many of us value this?

Talking about God and prayers the soul word is something called “FAITH”. Faith is when you pray for something, wait for years together for it to happen, it’s not happening and still you believe that God is capable of making it happen – That is Faith! . It’s not that God cannot solve it within seconds. It’s all about the different timings. So be patient. Prioritise life. Give God some credit and things will be different. I love this saying -”Leave everything in God’s hands and you can find God’s hand in everything. Worry ends where faith begins! “ Do we deserve all that we have? Half the time, we don’t deserve anything. You find people better than you missing out on what you have! All this is because God decided to give you something – whether you’re capable or not. God just wants you to have it. It’s high time we thanked God for what we have.

In this very world we find two kinds of people – the rich and the poor. Why this difference? Then you start thinking – Why is God partial? Was it God who created the caste system? Was it God who categorized people into groups? No! It’s us – We the people! God can never be partial. We have to accept that we live in an “I ME MYSELF” self centered society with God taking all the blame when it comes to poverty, deprivation, the pathetic state of a nation!

I’m not asking you all to live the life of a saint. Give God some importance in life. Treat God as a friend, a fellowmate! Spend some time for God everyday – be it good or bad. Go for a walk with God everday of your life. Not for the miracles. Not to help you become rich. Not to see your face in the cover page of TIMES. Not to top the whole world but to just share your heart with God, someone who understands in a way that no one can. God can heal a wounded heart like no doctor can. He can bring happiness like no money can. Imagine a friend who is always with you, just to see you smile, to live your life to the fullest.

Now to summarize the whole thing God isn’t given a deserving place. Have an unshakeable faith in God. If you did, then no matter what happens in life - whether you’re getting petals or thorns, you still move on when you know that there is someone who will stick by you and guide you. Stop finding excuses to spend time with God. Make everyday of your life special. God doesn’t want to be a mere magician performing just miracles in your life. God wants to hold your hands and walk with you throughout life. Understand. Change. Live. That’s all I ask from you.

Don't judge God based on the outcome of your circumstances. It hurts God when you lose your faith just because some part of your life didn't turn out the way you expected it to be. When you are down and out, stop cursing God and start trusting even more. Don’t be moved by the little stones that make you stumble, God is always ready to catch you before you fall. Be strong and "Don’t tell God how big your problem is. Tell your problem how big your God is!"
